Specializations
Our specializations are based on our interests. Every scout has
his/her favorite disciplines and activities, which he/she likes
to do. As a scout team we offer the possibility of participating
in the activities of different specializations. This way, scouts
can decide for themselves which activities/disciplines appeal to
them the most, and advance their knowledge and skills in a chosen
specialization.
Rescue
First Aid and Rescue has always been a priority specialization in
our scout team. One of the most important ideas driving our team,
is developing willingness to help other people and overcome one's
weaknesses. Ability to do that gives us a sense of security,
because we know that we are capable of helping one another in the
time of need. Many of us have been awarded Brown Medical Rescue
Badges by ZHP (Polish Scouting Association), successfully
completed medical rescue courses conducted by Polish Red Cross,
and some even received European Union medical rescue certificates.
Ability to provide first aid gives us an opportunity to safely
conduct activities tied to other specializations. The team has
participated in numerous first aid and medical rescue competitions
around Poland, receiving high scores and winning places on the
podium.
Aviation and Model Airplane building
Although there is no pilots in our scout team, the subject of
aviation arises a lot of interest among scouts. This interest is
mostly fueled by our close ties with the 13th Warszawska Lotnicza
Druzyna Harcerska "SKRZYDŁO" (13th Warsaw Aviation Scout Team "THE
WING"). Every year, we prepare the younger scouts from TWIERDZA
for the paper model airplane competition, which is organized by the
13th WLDH (we cannot participate in the competition ourselves due
to the age limit, but quite often we're invited as judges).
Parachuting
WMany of us have tried parachuting and sky diving. It is not rare
to find Polish Scouting Parachuting Badge (commonly called 'Gapa')
on our uniforms. Many of our scouts impatiently wait to make that
first jump out of an airplane, and some of us have quite a few
jumps in their log books.
Pro-Defensive Specialization
We're expanding our knowledge not only in self-defense, but to
always be able to help and save those who are being harmed. We want
to be reliable, so we can always be counted on. This specialization
includes: survival training, communication training, rifle
marksmanship, land navigation, etc. Twice, we have taken the first
place in the "Maroon Beret" competition during the annual Nationwide
Specialty Games; even though, the berets we wear are black.
Scuba Diving
A large number of our scouts is involved in scuba diving, acquiring
scuba diving licenses at different levels of advancement, primarily
in two organizations: CMAS and PADI. In the beginning, all dives were
being conducted based on diving SAS. At the present time, one of
our members is a certified M1 KDP/CMAS instructor, and that allows us
to conduct training and practice, without the help of an outside
organization. The equipment we own allows us to conduct dives for
few people at the same time, and the only thing that we're missing
from a completely independent operation is a compressor.
Roping Techniques
The roping techniques would primarily be used on buildings and
bridges. Since we are located in a city (Warsaw), those are the most
possible areas of operation for our scout team. The emphasis lays in
the knowledge of different knots, as well as rescue techniques using
ropes. A frequently implemented element of our training is using
artificial climbing walls, where our scouts practice their climbing
and roping skills.
